K9 training and collars
There are a lot of myths out there regarding collars. With so many different collars available--partial slip collars, training harnesses, pinch collars, shock collars and more--it's easy to see how choosing the right collar can be confusing. To understand which collar works best for K9 training, watch a dog show and observe the collars the expert and award-winning trainers are using. You'll see they're using a slip collar, which is often referred to as a "choke chain". However, it's important to note that the effective way to use a slip collar is to deliver a sharp tug and release. It's should never be used to choke a dog. Essentially, the handler is the person responsible for operating the slip collar. When using the collar improperly, only then does it become a "choke chain".
