At K-9 Companions we offer a Certified Dog Trainer Course and Certification (C.T.) as well as a Certified Master dog Trainer Certification (C.M.T.). The Certified Dog Trainer Course (for those who want to become a dog trainer) is 240 hrs long and requires hands on training with the staff in all areas of dog training from Kennel Technician through 3 levels of dog obedience and 3 levels of protection with overviews of Detection, Service Dog Training, and Competition.
In addition, the student will get to work with approximately 100 dogs of all breeds and sizes during this 90 day period of time. Studies for trainer include book work, tests, and discussions about all areas of dog behavior, psychology, temperament testing, and more.
We offer The Dog Trainers Course in the Spring and Fall for a 90 day period with the possible extension of an additional 90 days for those with difficult schedules. Course cost is $6000.00 and does not include housing. Contact for a formal course outline.
To become a Certified Master Trainer (C.M.T.) the dog trainer must complete the book work, tests, and hours, for the Certified Trainer (C.T.) course, plus have 1 year worth of practical experience working with actual dogs and clients under the supervision of K-9 Companions (professional dog trainer). This is not a paid course rather is an extension of this course or employment with K-9 Companions. Trainers working in other states and countries can be signed off on this experience by a licensed training facility or legal NPO.

In recent years, we have been contacted several times with requests regarding the backgrounds of individual dog trainers claiming to have been certified as a dog trainer by K-9 Companions. Because of this we have compiled a list for easy access for people to locate the individuals by name and whether or not they were trained or certified by us. Certified dog trainer indicates that the individual took the dog trainer course and was tested on knowledge and practical application. All others listed dog trainer but non certified were trained from the level of Kennel Tech through Master trainer with 1 Year or more of practical experience working with owners and dogs. Dates indicate the years of experience with K-9 Companions with or without certification. For anyone who cares to check you will see a number of dog trainers currently doing business in Southern California listed here. This list is not a complete list of dog trainers.
